Halpin in collaboration with our colleagues in the Maritime Studies team in NMCI, have been successful in an EMFF Blue Economy funding proposal submitted earlier this year, worth €750,000 led by STC Netherlands. The project entitled TEAMS – Teaching Entrepreneurship Advancing the Maritime Sector, will be delivered in Halpin through our Learning Development group. Work is expected to kick off in the autumn, which will involve collaboration with five other European partners from the Netherlands, Finland & Belgium.
This funding will enable partners to undertake a programme of work aimed at accelerating innovation in the maritime sector by fostering design thinking and entrepreneurship with students in maritime education, incorporating relevant 21st-century skills in existing curricula. The project will create a structured, permanent collaboration framework on innovation between maritime industry and education.
The collaboration will result in a design thinking & maritime entrepreneurship blueprint, which can be replicated and adapted by other EU maritime educational institutions. TEAMS will aim to influence multilateral organisations to adopt changes in international agreements regarding 21st-century skills development. The work aligns with our strategic aim of supporting job creation and economic growth in the maritime sector through the provision of highly skilled & highly qualified professionals capable of adapting to the changing needs of the maritime sector. This funding success is a great example of what can be achieved through the integrated efforts of departments within NMCI. We are looking forward to kicking off this exciting project!
