Robert leads the Halpin maritime safety, security, and learning development thematic focuses. While Robert’s expertise within this domain spans the globe, he has spent the last number of years focusing on Arctic related maritime transport safety, security and emergency preparedness. This experience has involved coordinating MTU’s efforts on a number of major Arctic EU H2020 funded projects such as SEDNA and ARCSAR. In fulfilling these functions, Robert manages and coordinates and number of multinational cross-functional teams, focused on delivering research outputs and innovations which have industry and societal impacts. Robert has sourced and managed research funding across a broad range of EU funding programmes which include H2020, FP7 Inter-reg, ESA, and ERASMUS.
Previously, Robert has worked across a broad spectrum within the maritime sector which include, operational management, learning and development, employee wellbeing, and HRM. He is also a qualified Naval Watch-keeper and Merchant Navy Deck Officer. In 2014, he attended Kemmy Business School, University of Limerick, where he received the outstanding scholar award for his research in organisational change. Robert is currently a PhD Scholar with Cork University Business School, UCC. His research focuses include careers and talent management within the maritime industry.
